This question is something we think about a lot at Mashable, and the answer depends a lot on the kind of company and product or products in play. It also shifts based on the demographic you’re targeting and the current state of the mobile landscape.

One thing to consider is the cost. Developing a native app can be expensive, and it may or may not be worth it for your company. And depending on how you handle user data and users’ expectations, you might be facing some legal troubles in the future.

The first three sites are all designed on a custom Theme Hybrid template for WordPress. All three incorporate an all-Ajax page transition.  The Ajax transitions are accomplished by the use of jQuery.

Here are some specific info about each site:

Bloss Sales and Rental – Bloss Sales and Rental is a tool rental company in Tulsa, OK. Their current website was beginning to look very dated. With this new website I wanted to give a very clean and open feel. Actual use of graphic elements are very few. The site is planned to be live by the end of the week.

Boy Scout Troop 903 – This website was built to be an infomation center for a Boy Scout Troop. The use of social media is extensive. Posts are pushed to Facebook and Twitter, photos are served on Flickr and videos are on YouTube. All have the ability to be updated in real-time from any smartphone. Photos uploaded to the pack’s Flickr account are instantly updated on the website and the same for any videos uploaded to the pack’s YouTube channel. The goal was to create a clean and useful site that would accomplish a great deal to keep troop leaders, the boys and their parents involved and informed.

Cub Scout Pack 903 – The cub scout website is basically the same as the Boy Scout site above. It utilizes the same features and is basically the same template.

American Bus Sales – This last site I was asked to design the art work for. The developer, Eric Cockrell at 37 Stars asked me to work on the design while he developed all the code. This site is built on ASP.net and incorporates a fluid design. The site expands to the width of the browser and retains a minimum width of 980px. I also utilized some CSS3 features particularly in the background to accomplish the full expanding flag that scales with the window size of the site in the browser.
